I have played in several community bands and orchestras, as well as in two chamber music groups. I am an intermediate oboe player and I find it easier to stay in practice with the motivation of having someone or a group to play with. I'm less interested in arrangements of pop tunes and movie music than in classical music or a fellow musician's composition. For me, a great musical get-together would start with playing music I've gotten ahead of time to prepare and end with some sight-reading, lasting an hour or maybe two with a break. Fellow musicians would also have prepared and be ready to focus more on putting our parts together than on woodshedding their own part. I like to chat a bit but am most satisfied when most of the time is spent playing. Ideally we'd find several pieces we all like and work on them enough to be performance-ready, with frequency of rehearsals between once a week and once a month. I would be interested in performance opportunities, whether unpaid (such as at senior centers or libraries) or paid (such as weddings or parties), and I would be happy to share the responsibility of finding/planning such opportunities. It's likely I'll acquire an English horn in 2024.
